Anime-Wiki.org:About
From Anime-Wiki.org
Founded in August 2005, Anime-Wiki.Org is the Internet's first fully dedicated, and open anime encyclopedia. Our goal is to centralize all anime, manga, live-action, and Japanese culture into a comprehensive, and easy to access database. Following in the likes of Wikipedia, it is our ultimate goal to eventually provide Anime-Wiki.Org in multiple languages. We hope to encourage the successful proliferation of anime culture to a worldwide audience through a clean, simple, and flexable Wiki website scheme.
In May 2008, Anime-Wiki.Org made its first steps into the world of Internationalization; or offering our content in multiple languages. The launch of our German and Finnish wiki's created the first fully staffed and fully supported multi-language wiki dedicated exclusively to anime. Only Wikipedia's database currently offers a greater variety of languages. Our goals are to continue expanding into many other languages including French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin), Russian, Polish, Swedish, Italian, Portuguese and many more! Our small, dedicated and talented staff are determined to do their best to meet the needs of a growing international community that demands a repository of anime information in their native language. Anime-Wiki.Org is determined to become that source. We invite all of our visitors to make suggestions in order to help us expand and better serve the needs of the world anime community. If you would like to offer your help and services in establishing a wiki in your own language, we are all ears -- let us know how you would like to help out!
Anime-Wiki.Org is a non-profit website. We offer our content under a Creative Commons - Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 scheme. All costs associated with the website (hosting, domains, etc) are covered by The Jasio.Net Network. The administration of Anime-Wiki.Org strongly believes in providing content in an ad-free, and organized manner. Anime-Wiki.Org was originally founded by the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 license but as of May 2008 we have officially adopted the 3.0 specification.
Anime-Wiki is designed as a collaborative anime resource. The unique feature of Anime-Wiki is its user created content and pages. All the pages on this website (save for the main pages) have been created by visitors to our website, and are constantly being updated throughout the day. This makes Anime-Wiki's content unique in it is user created. There is no fancy editor sitting in a desk writing reviews, or designing hundreds of pages; it is just the website visitors expanding the website simply by visiting and contributing a little bit of their knowledge to our wiki.
Anime-Wiki.Org was founded by Aiwa-nei of Omochi.Net and Jasio of The Jasio.Net Network. Currently the website is actively maintained by Jasio.
Why Choose Us, Over Wikipedia
While this issue is considered touchy by some visitors and users, we strongly believe that Anime-Wiki.Org is a very different organization than Wikipedia. In particular, we are more interested in providing a rich and interesting Anime repository, rather than getting caught up in unnecessary and fruitless enforced rules/regulations that require users to cross-reference, cite and rubber stamp every bit of text they attempt to place on Wikipedia, only to have it deleted without warning. We are not a "democracy" like Wikipedia, we have a hierarchical staff organization with the Administrator having final say on all matters. We believe that the collection of Anime information is more important than exhaustive and unnecessary citing (citing, however, is encouraged whenever possible). Anime-Wiki's Creative Commons license is flexible, easy to understand and implement without confusing the user or forcing upon them undue constraints. We like to keep things simple. We want to gather Anime information from a global audience, hear their interpretations and encourage the proliferation of Anime.
If you're tired of bureaucratic voodoo, article deletions without warning plus overzealous and over-extended administration then Anime-Wiki is the place to be :) ... and yes, this is a rant in our favor. It's our website, we can do it.
So welcome to our community, thank-you for visiting and we sincerely hope you stay and help us envision a better Anime resource.
