The 'Third Division'|三番隊|sanbantai, also known as 'Squad 3' in the English dub, is one of the Gotei 13. The 3rd Division is headed by Lieutenant Izuru Kira, as currently they have no Captain.

Captain
There is currently no captain assigned to the 3rd Division.
Lieutenant
Izuru is the current lieutenant for the 3rd Division. He was in charge of the 3rd Division between the time of Gin's departure and Shūsuke's appointment as captain, and later became in charge again after Shūsuke killed himself.
Unseated and Officers of Unknown Rank
Inose is one of the three featured officers that appeared during the Shūsuke Amagai arc.
Aida is one of the three featured officers that appeared during the Shūsuke Amagai arc.
Kanō is one of the three featured officers that appeared during the Shūsuke Amagai arc.
Shinta is an unseated member of the 3rd Division who appears during the Shūsuke Amagai arc.

Former Captain
Rose was the captain of the 3rd Division prior to his becoming a Vizard 100 years before the main storyline.
Gin was the captain of the 3rd Division prior to his defecting from Soul Society.
- Shūsuke Amagai|天貝 繍助|Amagai Shūsuke
Shūsuke was the captain of the 3rd Division during the Amagai Arc (anime only). He was assigned to a patrol unit prior to his promotion. He turned out to be the mastermind of the events of the arc, and later took his own life to atone for his misdeeds.
Former 3rd Seat
- Makoto Kibune|貴船 理|Kibune Makoto
Makoto served as the 3rd seat of the 3rd Division (anime only). He was brought in by the Captain Amagai. He revealed himself to be a traitor and died in a fight with Izuru Kira.
Unknown
- Sugama
Sugama was an unseated officer who only appeared in the anime. After getting drunk at a party, he was killed by Kibune for witnessing him coming out of the Kasumiōji Clan's manor.

The insignia for the Third Division of the Gotei 13 is the marigold, which Izuru explains represents "despair."[1]

No special duties have been noted for the 3rd Division.
In the anime, when Shūsuke Amagai took over, they had to do menial labor in order to regain the other divisions' trust.

It is said that the gentlemen of the 3rd Division are contrary and they have the kind of attitude that enjoys that mean-spiritedness.
